Head of Engineering & Operations - Solar & Battery Systems - Renewable Energy Infrastructure

My client in the renewable energy sector is hiring a
Head of Engineering
to lead end-to-end engineering development and operations across Africa. This is a high-impact role driving the scale-up of distributed solar-battery infrastructure 100+ sites, while ensuring world-class engineering standards, operational excellence and zero HSSE incidents.

What You'll Lead

  • Define and execute engineering strategy for scalable solar-battery systems.
  • Set technical standards, design specifications, and site archetypes for efficient deployment.
  • Oversee full project lifecycle: feasibility, design, construction, commissioning, and performance optimization.
  • Manage EPC partners, RfPs, and technical requirements.
  • Implement predictive maintenance, IoT-based monitoring, and performance optimization
  • Ensure HSSE compliance with a safety-by-design approach.

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years in engineering & operations leadership in renewable energy or power systems, ideally across Africa.
  • Strong expertise in solar PV, battery storage, power electronics, grid interconnection, and IoT/SCADA monitoring.
  • Proven experience scaling multi-site operations across countries.
  • Bachelor's in Electrical/Mechanical/Energy Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • Strong HSSE, contractor management, and project development experience.
  • Tools: AutoCAD, PVsyst/Homer, and project management platforms.
  • Bonus: PE/CEng, PMP, HSSE certifications; experience in e-mobility or distributed energy systems.
