Job Summary

The Legal and Compliance Officer is responsible for managing all legal, regulatory, and compliance matters for Startimes Smart Energy. The role involves providing legal advice on company operations, drafting and reviewing contracts, ensuring adherence to regulatory and ethical standards, and supporting management in risk mitigation and corporate governance. The ideal candidate will have solid experience within the renewable energy or power sector, strong legal drafting skills, and a sound understanding of compliance requirements in Nigeria's energy industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, MOUs, and other legal documents.
  • Ensure company compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including NERC, REA, and other industry bodies.
  • Advise management on legal risks, rights, and obligations in relation to business operations.
  • Monitor developments in energy, environmental, and corporate laws relevant to company activities.
  • Develop and implement internal compliance frameworks, policies, and controls.
  • Conduct periodic compliance audits and risk assessments.
  • Support corporate governance processes, including meetings, filings, and company records.
  • Liaise with external counsel and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Provide guidance on employment law, contracts, and dispute resolution.
  • Train staff on compliance awareness, ethics, and legal obligations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B) and Call to the Nigerian Bar (B.L) are mandatory.
  • 4–7 years of post-call experience in corporate law, compliance, or a related field.
  • Experience in the
    renewable energy, power, or infrastructure
    sector is strongly preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of Nigerian corporate, regulatory, and environmental law.
  • Proven ability to draft and interpret contracts and legal documents.
  • Strong analytical, advisory, and problem-solving skills.
  • High ethical standards, confidentiality, and professional integrity.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
