Job Title: Legal & Compliance Officer

Reports To: Executive Management

Role Summary

The Legal & Compliance Officer ensures the organization meets all regulatory, legal, and statutory obligations. The role includes drafting and reviewing contracts, managing regulatory filings, ensuring internal compliance with policies, conducting audits, managing risk, and providing legal advisory support to the business. The officer ensures that operations comply with local laws, industry regulations, and company governance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Advisory & Documentation

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, MOUs, NDAs, partnership agreements, service agreements, and employment documents.
  • Conduct legal research and provide advisory opinions to management on risk, obligations, and regulatory matters.
  • Maintain updated legal and statutory documentation for the company.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Prepare and file regulatory returns with CAC, FIRS, SEC, licensing bodies, or other regulators (depending on industry).
  • Monitor regulatory changes and advise leadership on required adjustments.

Risk & Internal Controls

  • Conduct periodic compliance audits across departments.
  • Identify potential risks and recommend mitigation plans.
  • Ensure adherence to internal governance, ethics, and anti-corruption policies.

Dispute Resolution & Contract Enforcement

  • Manage legal disputes, liaise with external counsel, and represent company interests where necessary.
  • Track contract performance and enforce obligations.

Training & Compliance Culture

  • Organize legal and compliance training for staff (data protection, whistleblowing, ethics, HR compliance, etc.).
  • Support development and updating of organizational policies and SOPs.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and completion of Law School (B.L).
  • 3–6 years post-call experience in corporate law, compliance, or company secretariat functions.
  • Strong experience with contract drafting and regulatory filings.
  • Experience in compliance audits, risk management, and corporate governance.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of Nigerian corporate law, labor law, and data protection regulations.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Accuracy and timeliness of regulatory filings.
  • Number of compliance breaches or audit issues (lower is better).
  • Quality and speed of contract reviews and legal opinions.
  • Timeliness in resolving legal disputes or escalations.
  • Staff compliance training completion rate.
  • Effectiveness of risk mitigation measures implemented.
  • Compliance with company governance standards.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₦350,000.00 per month
